Black Down

Black Down is the highest hill in the Mendips rising 241m above the levels (325m above sea level) at Beacon Batch trig point. Blackdown is crisscrossed with bridleways connecting it to Rowberrow Warren, Burrington and Charterhouse making it a great place to include in a multitude of rides. The Twin Brooks and the Limestone Link are certainly worth riding if you are heading to Burrington or Rowberrow Warren.

Burrington Ham

Burrington Ham, also known as Burrington Camp, is an Iron Age hill fort. From Burrington Ham car park you can choose one of two bridleways that descend the north side of the Mendips to Burrington Village. In spring these are covered in Bluebells. You can loop back up through Burrington Combe, taking a quick look at Goatchurch Cavern, or extend the ride by climbing up Link Lane to Black Down or Rowberrow Warren.

Cheddar Pump Track

After 3 years of hard work we are really happy to say that Cheddar Pump Track officially opened on Saturday the 2nd of April 2022. The track is completely free to use and open all year round. The track has a fine asphalt finish and can be used by push bikes, skateboards and scooters. Please be considerate of other users and help those less confident than yourself. Please make sure to keep the area around the track clean and take your rubbish home with you.

Crook Peak

Crook Peak is one of the largest areas of open land on the Mendips. It rises 191m above the Levels (233m above sea level) and has breath taking views over Somerset. Ride along a section of the West Mendip Way from Kings Wood, over Wavering Down to Crook Peak. Then choose whether to carry on to Loxton, Christon and loop back to Kings Wood or just double back and take in the fantastic views a second time from the other direction.

Rowberrow Warren

Rowberrow Warren is privately owned woodland managed by Forestry England under lease. Ride Mendips have secured permission to develop and maintain official mountain bike trails within its boundaries. There are two official trails. The North East trail is made up of Pump Track, Lumps & Bumps, Twins, The Chippy & Yeehaw. The South West trail is made up of Christmas Trees, Happy Valley, Pig Pen & Vicious Valley.

The Strawberry Line

The Strawberry Line is a dedicated cycle path that connects Cheddar to Yatton. It is part of the Sustrans network and is a useful link between the mid and west Mendips. The Strawberry Line is mainly traffic-free, with no steep gradients and only 9 miles long, making it ideal for a family day out. Along the way you’ll appreciate the beauty and variety of Somerset as you pass cider apple orchards, steep wooded valleys and the spectacular Cheddar Gorge.
